Houston’s The Ride Home is on the rise. Conscious about the reality of performing music, their new music has a quality of its own. Unlike on their previous demo, Old News, it’s an experience and a feeling… something that the listener can connect with. Evolving over the past several years, they’ve reached a point where they’re finding their true sound. Tomorrow, they will release their first music video for “Girls,” a new track off their album due out in October.

Out of all your new songs, why did you choose “Girls” to shoot a video for?
“Girls” is just a really fun, poppy, and energetic track, and pretty accessible at the same time.
What is the inspiration behind the theme of the video?
The storyline is centered on a girl who meets the band and she really wants to impress us so she changes her look and tries to conform to a certain stereotype. It’s really a coming of age story.
Where will the video premiere?
We’re premiering on an Internet near you. It will be released on our MySpace, Tumblr, and Facebook. We’ll probably have a release show for it as well.
Who are some of your favorite fellow Houston artists to play shows with?
Hollywood Black, Buxton, and Team Effort. We wish we had more peers in the Houston scene.
How do you feel that the band has evolved since Old News?
It sounds like the same band, but something we referenced a lot was “coming of age.” We weren’t in control of the recording process before. It was a lot more in the hands of the producer or whoever was pushing the record button. We also had to spend money on it, so time was always an issue. Now since we have our own gear we get to say if something isn’t working, and we’re able to produce something everybody in the band will be proud of instead of something that was out of our hands. We’re now more DIY and more self-produced, and the music is going to be a little bit more true. More human, and less polished.
How would you describe your process of recording your upcoming album?
The new album is self-produced so it sounds more organic than artificial. As a whole, it sounds more mature than Old News.
Is the recording for the new album finished?
We’re still very much in the process of recording. We’re looking at about a seven total track release. Everyone is always annoyed that we don’t put out full length albums so we’re not going to put out another three or four track album.
Have you booked your next tour? When is it?
We haven’t book it yet. Right now we’re focusing on recording and really trying to push the release. We hope to see a winter tour, but if not, we’re definitely doing another summer tour. A big factor in our touring is that we all go to school and we all work. It’s a big juggling act all the time, especially with shows and recording. We just have to balance out those aspects and see where life ends up for everyone.
