Well, if we’re full for two issues in regards to photography features, we don’t want to interview you four months before you’ll actually run, as photographers constantly take new photos and have new ideas about their work and will only want to change it within those four months. Don’t worry. We will not forget about you. If we contacted you, we WILL get to you. We promise.
- I completed my interview. When will my feature be run?
We aren’t sure, to be honest. We try to do it in the order received, but there are a few reasons we’d push someone back. If there are two photographers with the same or very similar names, we try not to run them in the same issue to avoid confusion by both the staff (we don’t want to publish Ashley A’s photos as Ashley B’s on accident!!) and the reader. Another reason we’d push you back is if your photos don’t fit within the space we have left. As soon as we know the issue and date, I will e-mail you!
- Can I change my photos?
You can try. Sometimes this is possible if you ask early enough or if I like you enough to completely scrap everything I’ve done and start over. Sometimes I will send e-mails out if I feel I have enough time to switch stuff around, especially if it’s been a while since we interviewd you. I can’t promise that it will happen, but it won’t hurt if you ask.
- Can I have a copy of my issue/feature?
Sure! If you want the entire issue, you can just go to the issue and click “download this issue” on the table of contents page. If you want your feature specifically, e-mail me and I can send you a PDF or a JPEG, or both.
- Why does it take you forever to moderate the Flickr group?
Well, we don’t want a giant list of potential interviewees to pile up and get overwhelming. We DO look at them, and most of the time, if it’s still pending, we like it and just haven’t approved it. We deny photos right away and never leave them in the pending pool.
- Okay, seriously, why are my photos always denied!?!?!?
Harsh reality time: because we don’t like them. We either don’t think it’s good, we’ve seen the same photograph or concept a zillion times, you just don’t have the ‘style’ we like, or you submitted 500 photos of your face in a row and we just got sick of looking at it. Yes, we will allow 365 photos in the group and even in the magazine, but when you submit a ton of very similar photographs of yourself it’s just so monotonous we delete them all. - You approved my photo in the Flickr group, does that mean I get to be interviewed?
Not necessarily. It means we like the photo and want to see more of your work. We don’t have time to look through streams, so keep posting photos to the group and if we like everything we see, we’ll contact you. It does, however, mean that we are probably considering interviewing you. Keep sending your stuff and be patient, we won’t forget about you
- You approved my photo in the Flickr group and later deleted it / I’ve been in the magazine, why aren’t you accepting my photos?
If you’ve been approved and asked to be interviewed, if there are photos in the group that you didn’t choose for your feature, we delete them. If you were in the magazine and are submitting photos we didn’t publish in the magazine, we don’t accept them.
