You contacted me about an interview and haven’t heard anything back.
We like to find photographers in advance, but we don’t want to interview you too early since photographers constantly take new photos and have new ideas about their work. We won’t forget about you, we promise. Feel free to send us a reminder e-mail, but please, not too many.
I completed my interview. When will my feature run?
We’re not sure. We try to publish in the order we did the interviews, but for various reasons your interview might be pushed back. If two photographers have the same or very similar names, same models, etc, we will put them in different issues to avoid confusion by both the staff and the readers. Another reason we would push an interview back is if your photos don’t fit within the space we have left. As soon as we know the issue number and date of publication, we will e-mail you!
Can I change my photos?
You can try. If you ask early enough or I like you enough to completely scrap all of the work I’ve done and start over, maybe. If I am feeling generous and have a lot of time, I’ll e-mail you with a limited time offer to change the photos, especially if it’s been a long time since we interviewed you. There’s no guarantee we will switch your photos, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Can I have a copy of my issue/feature?
Sure! If you want a copy of the entire issue, just go to the issue’s table of contents and click “download this issue,” toward the top of the page. If you want your feature specifically, email Sunny and she will send you a PDF, a JPEG, or both.
Ok, seriously, why are the photos I submit to your Flickr group always denied?!?!?!?!?!
Harsh reality time: because we don’t like them. Either we don’t think it’s very good, we’ve seen the same photograph or concept a zillion times, you just don’t have the ‘style’ we like, or you submitted 500 photos of your face in a row and we just got sick of looking at it.
Wait…what if I do a 365 project and all of my photos are of my face?
Try to choose ones that don’t look too similar or weren’t taken on the same day or with the same theme. We will allow 365 photos in the group and the magazine (see issue 4’s Ally Jade spread, specifically about her 365 project) but when you submit a ton of very similar photographs of yourself it’s just so monotonous we delete them all.
You approved my photo in the Flickr group. Does that mean I get to be interviewed?
Not necessarily. It means we really like the photo and want to see more of your work. We don’t have time to look through streams, so keep posting your best photos to the group and if we like what we see, we’ll contact you. If we aren’t considering interviewing you, you won’t make it into the group. Keep submitting your work and keep your eye out for a Flickr mail from us!
You approved my photo in the Flickr group and later deleted it / I’ve been in the magazine, why aren’t you accepting my photos?
If you’ve been approved and interviewed, or actually featured in the magazine, we will delete any photos you didn’t choose for your feature and we won’t accept any photos that weren’t published with your interview.
