FAQ - BANDS

FOR BANDS

How can my band be featured in your magazine?
E-mail some information about your band to editorial@positivexposure.com

You guys are taking forever to review my album.
That’s not a question, but, just send us a follow up email.

Do you have any tips for how my band can get into the magazine?
 Of course:

  • Have something interesting to talk about. As much as we may love your band, if there’s nothing significant to ask you about, we’re not going to conduct a pointless interview. If you just want to get your music heard, try asking us about another way we can feature you.
  • Have something to say. While every band member is important, there is almost always one member with better grammar skills and interview abilities. We’d like to talk to that member.
  • Support what we’re about. If your band is heavily into arts, non-profits, and/or creativity, we’ll most likely be more eager to interview you.
  • Don’t support what we’re not about. We’re nice people and we like other nice people. If a significant amount of your time is spent bashing other bands or just generally being a jerk, we’re not going to make room for you over other bands that support our message.

How can I send you my band’s album?
If you don’t have physical copies or want to save money on postage, you can send us the files & info at: editorial@positivexposure.com. We prefer files over links so we can listen to good quality copies of your masterpieces on repeat.
If you’re a publicist/manager/etc. or want to show us your super cool packaging, e-mail editorial@positivexposure.com with the info & we’ll send you our address.

If you’re pop-punk e-mail your files/info to Hailey@positivexposure.com!

Is there a format you prefer?
Nope. We like music in all of its forms.

What formats or genres will you review?
We can probably find someone on our staff who likes the genre of music you create, so don’t be shy. Send everything our way. You can also look at our site and see what types of music we’ve already covered if you want to double check. We can review Mp3s/Mp4s, CDs, and pretty much any size vinyl records.

If you’re pop-punk, send your info to Hailey@positivexposure.com!

What kind of information should I send you?
Tell us who you are and why we should know you. Send us a bio, a photo, tour dates, your album, etc. Anything you want us to know about your band.

If you don’t like my album will you publish a nasty review?
Psh, fool this is positivexposure. Of course we wont. We  only talk about things we like!

How will I know if you decide not to review my album?
We’ll regrettably inform you that we didn’t like it.

Do you have tips for how to get our music listened to and reviewed?
We listen to everything sent our way. Getting the record reviewed is just a matter of sending the files and information to the appropriate writer. If none of the writers really enjoy the album, we won’t review it. We will never not review an album without letting you know, so if we are taking forever it does not mean that we don’t like it!

  • Send it a little while before it’s supposed to be released, and make sure you put the release date in gigantic letters somewhere so we don’t miss it.
  • Please include a track listing in case it doesn’t show up when we play the album. Lyrics are also awesome if you happen to have them typed up & they’re not in the liner.
  • Of course, feel free to check up on the review process, but don’t bug the crap out of us. Bugging the crap out of us makes us transfer our reaction to the annoyance into your review and nobody wants that to happen, so:
  • Be patient. All of our writers have multiple jobs within the magazine as well as school and jobs, so we do what we can.

How often can we be featured?
It depends on how often your band has something new going on. Some bands (*cough*Portugal.TheMan*cough*) seem to produce new content faster than the speed of light, so they’ll be featured more often than bands who take longer to write albums or take breaks from touring.
