Well hello there, internet people! Today, Positivexposure turns one. This past year has been so crazy for me. In June 2009, I threw together a 16-page magazine of old content by myself in less than a week. I put it online and didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t expect anyone to see it or like it, and I didn’t expect to make magazines for more than a month or so. I figured it was a fleeting hobby.
Soon, in July 2010, we’ll be publishing the 7th issue of Positivexposure, and we’re proud to say we have gained over 13,500 reads.

Beautiful things are coming in the next few months… More photos, more reviews, more interview, more site content. We’re excited to be launching a brand new Australian version of Positivexposure’s web site, which will feature unsigned Australian bands, reviews of shows from down under, and we’re just getting started thinking of ideas for it, so stay tuned. The Australian site won’t just be for Aussies…it can open a whole new world of music for people from all around the globe!

We’re not doing anything special for our first birthday, but we would love to hear from some of you loyal readers about what you’ve thought of us the past year. (Seriously, it’s our birthday so leave anything mean until the day after!) Please don’t hesitate to e-mail (editorial@positivexposure.com) Tweet (www.twitter.com/positivexposure) or IM us on AIM (PosExMagazine) to get in touch with us. We would really love to hear from you about what you, the reader, want to see in the next year.

On behalf of everyone at Positivexposure, thank you all so much for coming with us on the journey so far, and here’s to another, even better year!

Hey everyone, we just wanted to thank everyone who bought a print from our Human. Artist. section. We just donated everything we made, and here is our proof. Feel free to click the image to see it bigger. I blacked out my address and credit card number. There are still a ton of prints available and all the proceeds go straight to the Red Cross to benefit Haiti.

Here are a couple of questions we get a lot:
Can I add my photo to the Human.Artist. section?
No. We have way too many that didn’t sell. Hopefully we’ll be able to do another one soon, so keep in touch.

Why Red Cross?
They provide medical care and clean water, which we believe are important.

Didn’t everyone already donate to Haiti?
Not everyone. A lot of people did but once the initial wave of donations are done and there is no more money going towards helping them, that is when extra money is needed most.

Hey there guys. So this is my attempt at an Aussie version of Brits & Pieces. I thought rather than clog up the page with an entry every time I had news to report, I’d try and do a weekly report. I’m based in Melbourne, so naturally my reports will be more Melbourne orientated, but I’ll try and give you news from the rest of Australia too.

So, what went down this week? Most of us were recovering from the Soundwave festival fever that swept through the nation for the last fortnight or so. Soundwave is the closest thing to Warped Tour in Australia, and over the last 3 years has overtaken most of the other festivals to become one of the top summer festivals. Well done to the Soundwave production team for another great year!

On the local news front, let’s start with cd releases. Melbourne post-hardcore band House vs Hurricane released their debut album, Perspectives, today. HvsH ventured to Baltimore to record with Brian McTernan, who has previously worked with Thrice, Harvard and We Are The Ocean. House vs Hurricane will embark on a national tour in support of Perspectives, and will be joined by Antagonist D, Mary Jane Kelly and Skyway! Dates for “The Perspectives Tour” can be found here.

Switchfoot announced an April Australian tour this week. They’ll only be visiting the East coast cities of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne though. Dates can be found on their myspace.

Closure In Moscow have announced a short run of shows to make up for their absence at Soundwave after their controversial departure from the festival lineup. There are a few free shows happening as promised in Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland. For all the dates of “The Supreme Turbo Facilitator Tour” check out Closure In Moscow’s myspace.

And in other news:

- Break Even has pulled out of Pushover, which is happening this weekend. I heard a rumour that it was because one of the guys broke a leg crowd surfing at The Get Up Kids’ sideshow in Perth. If that’s true, then that’s as legit as excuses get. They have been replaced by Pushover veterans Behind Crimson Eyes.
- Whitley has pulled out of Sounds Loud (not happening until April 11th) but has been swiftly replaced by Philadelphia Grand Jury.
- The Bendigo leg of Groovin the Moo, featuring Tegan and Sara and Vampire Weekend, has sold out.
- There has been a venue change for the Vampire Weekend sideshow, which is now happening at Festival Hall on Wed 5th May.
- Brisbane band, The Dream The Chase released a video for “Who Is Alone” from their debut EP Found Again. It can be seen on their myspace.

And lastly, some gigs to check out this week (in Melbourne):
- Head to BANG! tomorrow night for The Bright Star Alliance’s first show since reforming. They’ll be supported by And I Swear It’s The Last Time and Revontullet.
- Spend Sunday at Pushover, which sees a huge lineup of Australian bands, including 50 Lions, Behind Crimson Eyes, Kisschasy, City Escape and Built [...]

- Another Public Holiday eve, another big night at Plastic. Catch heaps of great bands, including The Sundance Kids, The Mission in Motion, The Amenta and Double Dragon over two venues this Sunday night.
- On Wednesday head down to the Ding Dong Lounge to catch the free Closure In Moscow show.
- Melbourne band Built On Secrets will be having their EP launch show at the Ding Dong Lounge on Friday, and will be supported by City Escape, Dream on, Dreamer and Vultures.

So that’s a wrap for the first instalment of an attempt at an Australian correspondence. I’ve only quickly listed everything I could think of off the top of my head. If you have any Australian news, or if you’re an Australian band and would like to promote a gig/release/house party, feel free to drop me a line at alycekeli@positivexposure.com. I’ll see you kids next week.

“We are pleased to herewith announce a history making cooperation between Polaroid and The Impossible Project:

As we have created quite some buzz about Analog Instant Photography over the past 12 months, the Polaroid licensee – The Summit Global Group – now can’t resist any longer and announced at a press conference on October 13th in Hongkong that they will re-launch some of the most famous Polaroid Instant Cameras.

Therefore they are commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid branded Instant Films in the middle of 2010.

The Impossible Project is proud and excited that its ambitions and all the relentless work that has already been invested are now becoming the foundation for Polaroid’s comeback as a producer of Instant Cameras.

Large-scale production and worldwide sale of The Impossible Project’s new integral film materials under its own brand will already start in the beginning of 2010 – with a brand new and astonishing black and white Instant Film and the first colour films to follow in the course of the year.”
